Devil Wears Prada

It has been a while since I have watched a movie.

Last Saturday, Raymund, Tere and I caught "The Devil Wears Prada".

I have always loved Anne Hathaway since her Pricess Diaries days. Meryl Streep was so convincing as Miranda. "No, no! That wasn't a question." :)

Transformers (the Movie)

During the movie, they showed the semi-trailer of this movie.

Yes it is confirmed. Steven Spielberg would produce the movie and Michael Bay shall direct it. It will be out July 2007.

Old Cartoon TV Shows

This got me thinking of the old favorite cartoons that I have watched when I was a kid.

Here are the top 10 cartoons that I have loved in no particular order. (Note: The timing inputted are to the best of my knowledge only. It may be not accurate)

http://www.cheezey.org/voltron/pics/haggar/haggar_lurking.jpg
Voltron (the Lion Force)

Channel 13 - Friday Night at 7PM.

I would never miss an episode about these lions. I even have the toy and surprisingly it is still alive since I have 2 of them. One was completely for play and the other one was for display. hehehehe!

Keith, Lance, Alura, Pidge, Hunk, Sven, Lotor, King Zarkon, Haggar, Coran and the Space Mice

For more information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voltron

G.I.Joe - A Real American Hero

Channel 13 - Saturday 6:00PM

Duke, Cobra Commander, Destro, Baroness, Flint, Storm Shadow, Snake Eyes, Scarlett, Zartan, Beach Head, Lady Jayne, Tele-Vipers, Mainframe, Quick Kick, Roadblock.

This is probably the cartoons where I had a lot of toys with. My first one was Destro with a silver head.

Yo JOE!

BlackStar

Channel 2 - Everyday - 4:30PM

I'm sure not a lot of people would remember this series. It was a cartoon that was ran under ABS-CBN's test broadcast when it was returning after Edsa Revolution.

The concept of good and evil each having one half of a powerful sword that would make them rule the world. Pretty much the same as He-man and She-ra, same company did the cartoon.

Disney's Adventure of the Gummi Bears

Channel 7 - Everyday - 4:00PM

Once they drink the Gummiberry Juice, these bears are able to leap tall. BOINK! Great storyline and characters.
The show also had a very catchy theme song:

Dashing and daring,
Courageous and caring,
Faithful and friendly,
With stories to share.
All through the forest,
They sing out in chorus,
Marching along,
As their song fills the air.

Gummi Bears!!
Bouncing here and there and everywhere.
High adventure that's beyond compare.
They are the Gummi Bears.

Magic and mystery,
Are part of their history,
Along with the secret,
Of gummiberry juice.
Their legend is growing,
They take pride in knowing,
They'll fight for what's right,
In whatever they do.

Gummi Bears!!
Bouncing here and there and everywhere.
High adventure that's beyond compare.
They are the Gummi Bears.
They are the Gummi Bears!!

Transformers

Channel 13 - Tuesday - 7:30PM

Characters such as Optimus Prime, Megatron, Star Scream, Wheel Jack, Sound Wave, Laser Beak, Bumblebee, Ratchet, Jeep, Dinobots, and so on. I remember the toys were extremely expensive but I had the following: Astro Train, Constructicons, Mirage and Ultra Magnus. I've wanted the Prime however my parents refuse to buy it for me.

Thanks to Rommel for the tickets.

Raymund and I watched this last night. Here is the synopsis according to the official website of the Singapore Repertory Theater:

A historical retelling of the story of China's Empress Dowager, the story is seen from the eyes of an American painter, Kate Carl, who is commissioned to paint the Empress' portrait.

The Empress recounts her amazing journey from a young imperial concubine to become the Empress of China and the pressures she faced.  The musical explores the myths surrounding her reign, from the controversial death of her only son to her ambitious tussle for power.

  • Nice production design.
  • Nice lyrics... "This is my only chance... "
  • Two Filipinos played big parts: Sheila Francisco who played the old Empress Dowager and RJ Francisco as Prince Thuan.

Day Before

Raymund, Tere and I went to Capella to have a proper Italian dinner. For ages, I have been dying to eat Italian. I kinda missed Francesca's (an Italian place in St. Charles) and I want to bring the novelty back. We ordered bruschettas, pastas, beef and fish plus desserts to die for.

During the course of the dinner, all the waiters gathered and sang "Happy Birthday" for me. Apparently, Tere and Raymund called up earlier to play that prank on me. I was soooo embarassed about the whole thing.

After that, we did what we do best(?), pose and get some pictures.

PIctures 1 - 3 (1. Pose - we didn't like it. 2. All of us started to giggle. 3. Re-shot)

Me and Raymund. We didn't like the first shot because it felt we were like in a Hawker Centre instead of an Italian Restaurant. However, the second shot was ruined because of the photographer's finger. In short, TERE ANG PANGIT MO KUMUHA!

Me and a hooker-look-a-like.

Me and a sponspor-look-a-like. "This is brought to you by... "

Bunch of Trio-Shots (HAGGARDNESS!!!!)

Coincedence:
WE ARE ALL WEARING SHADES OF GRAY!

When I called up my mom that night:
Me: Mom I bought you na your 3 lipstick.
Mom: I bought na rin 10 cans of sisg.
(Thoughts: parang unfair... hahahah)

Actual Day

At 8:05AM, while I was in the bathroom someone (Raymund and Bianca) was blaring on our Magic Sing.  They were singing this:

Tonight's the night I've waited for
Because you're not a baby anymore
You've turned into the prettiest girl
I've ever seen
Happy Birthday sweet sixteen

What happened to that funny face
My little tomboy
Now wears satin and lace
I can't believe my eyes
You're just a teenage dream
Happy Birthday sweet sixteen

When you were only six
You had a big brother
Then when you were ten
You didn't like each other
When you were thirteen
You were my funny valentine
But since you've grown up
Your future is sewn up
From now on you're gonna be fine

So if I should smile with sweet surprise
It's just that you've grown up
Before my very eyes
You've turned into the prettiest girl
I've ever seen
Happy Birthday sweet sixteen

If I should smile with sweet surprise
It's just that you've grown up
Before my very eyes
You've turned into the prettiest girl
I've ever seen
Happy Birthday sweet sixteen

Happy Birthday sweet sixteen
Sha la la la la la la la la
Happy Birthday sweet sixteen
Sha la la la la la la la la
Happy Birthday sweet sixteen
Sha la la la la la la la la
Happy Birthday sweet sixteen
Sha la la la la la la la la
Happy Birthday sweet sixteen

I was touched. Hahahaha.

Raymund had to go home in Manila that day as well since it was also his Mom's birthday.

Thank you for those people who remembered. Birthdays are always special to me no matter how simple it may be. (Raymund, Tere, Pam, Victor, Achie Jennifer, Jing T., Roselyn, Ellen, Winnie, Cherrie, Cindy, my officemates who gave me a box of chocolates, Richie, Jing L.)

That night, Winnie, Cindy and Cherrie went to eat at Tony Romas. It has been a while since we all gathered in a feast.

To Cindy: Welcome back to the world of pork!

30 minutes after midnight, I have received an SMS from Rommel saying, "Let me be the first to greet you belated Happy Birthday! Para maiba naman di ba? :)"  it is such a nice way to cap the whole day. :)

Last Friday, Raymund, Tere and me went out to dinner at a Vietnamese Restaurant. Once the bill arrived, I paid for it first using my card and then we all went home.

Fast forward Sunday evening, while I was checking my bank account online. I found a funny transaction which I can not seem to remember made to my card. Then i realized, the restaurant made a mistake over charging my card. The bill originally meant to at $39.43. The amount charged was $339.43. A whooping $300 (all most P10,000) was mistakenly added. Clearly the cashier made an honest mistake.

I wasted no time and went back to the restaurant and told them of my situation.

Surprisingly I was calm about the whole situation. Although, the manager made some excuses. I just smiled and replied as calm as I could

Here were the list of excuses made that day and what my reply was to her.
Manager Me
We did find out that we overcharged you. But there was no way of contacting you. You could have called the card company and cancelled the wrong transaction right?
Let me get your receipt and I will call the bank. Leave me your number then I will call  you. Then I wont have a copy of the receipt? Why dont you call the bank? It has a 24-hour service anyways?
The bank is closed. My card is a debit card. So the amount is already deducted. Why don't you just give me the cash instead?
I can not just give you cash because our accounting department doesn't allow that. But you accept cash transactions right? What is the difference? You can issue a receipt saying it's a corrective measure.
I can not just give you cash. For everything that we charged to the bank, a certain percentage is deducted to us. Tha's not my issue anymore. You mean to tell me you are willing to hold my money just for a few cents. It is not for you to use.

  • Audrey Tatou was really good.
  • The book was better than the movie but let us give credit how they made it. Still for those people who haven't read it, I am pretty sure they liked it.
  • Yesterday the church was handling out pamplets "Truth VS Fiction about the Da Vinci Code". I literally did not accept it from the one handling it out. I really think its a waste of time. Let us be more realistic about the fact most Catholics are smart enough to disern what is taught by their faith over some fictional book. Let us be open that whatever storyline that the book/movie was preaching can be true to some extent. But is it enough throw away the very foundation of your faith?

Raymund, Julie, Tere and me went to watch Mission Impossible 3 at the new Cathay Cinema. Man! it was HUGE!

About the movie, it was stressful. I felt like they went on to talk about the number of explosions that is going to happen even before they made the script.

Jonathan RHYS is a hottie. I never realized how good he looks till he bulked up a bit for this movie.

After the movie, trying to get a cab was next to IMPOSSIBLE(?!?). We had to walk from the cinema and ended up at Golden Mile in Bugis. How horrible!

The following day, the only reason I woke up was that I was hungry.

The moment I went out of my room, Tere also woke up.

We cooked eggs, corned beef and hotdogs for our brunch. During lunch, we talked about how stressful the movie last night felt, so we talked about feel good movies. Immediately after lunch, Tere and I went to rent out videos to do a feel-good-teeny-booper special movie marathon.

And these were what we came up with.

Heavy drama, di ba?
